SANFORD – The Sanford Mainers today announce that Joe Skinner has been named Director of Broadcasting & Media for the 2021 season.

“We’re excited to have Joe join the Mainers family for the 2021 season,” Vice Chairman, Jacob Ouellette said. “His already vast experience in the broadcast booth combined with his character will be a great match with the Mainers fan base this coming summer.”

Skinner is currently a senior at Penn State University, where he will graduate from in May 2021 with a major in broadcast journalism and a certificate in sports journalism. At PSU, Skinner is a broadcaster for Big Ten Network streams of Penn State sports on for baseball, softball, men’s basketball, and women’s soccer. Additionally, Skinner is a student general manager and play-by-play broadcaster for CommRadio, the student-run radio station, where he has called baseball, softball, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, and lacrosse.

“I am so honored to bring baseball back to the Sanford airwaves in 2021,” Skinner said. “I can’t wait to get to Maine and begin to connect with the passionate fans and share the stories of the hard-working players on the 2021 Mainers.”

Skinner also has experience in elite summer collegiate baseball. In 2019, he was the Play-by-Play Broadcasting intern for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he co-hosted a podcast for the team, interviewing former players, coaches and alumni in MLB including Tony Kemp and James McCann. In 2018, Skinner was the Broadcast and Media Relations intern for the Purcellville Cannons in the Valley Baseball League, where he called home games and wrote game recaps for 42 regular season games.
